FAQ
What's the difference between Gold filled, Vermeil, Gold plated?
Gold Plated is a thin layer, about .05% gold of jewelry's weight is plated over a base metal. It is prone to tarnishing and rubbing off when exposed to long term ware, water and heat. It can cause skin irritation.
Vermeil is a thicker layer of gold coated over a sterling silver base. It can wear off after long periods of time. It is hypoallergenic and a good option for people with sensitivities.
Gold filled is the thickest layer of gold, and is mechanically bonded around a base metal - usually jeweler's brass. It is required to have at least 5% 14K gold of the jewelry's weight but can be 12K gold. Gold filled, when taken care of properly, can last a lifetime. It has 100x more gold than gold plated and because it is bonded vs plated will not wear off. It's hypoallergenic and a great option for people with sensitivities. It is the highest quality between the three options.
